Why aren't the buttons on the front panel responding?

The buttons on the front panel don't seem to be doing anything when I press them. I have checked that the fan is plugged in. Any suggestions?

If the front panel buttons are not responding, the buttons are likely stuck because dirt or other debris has gotten into them. Take the fan apart and clean, or possibly replace, the buttons using this guide.
