What burning speed should I use on my MacBook?

Hi guys,

My laptop is a MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2009) with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ867A driver.

My question is this: What burning speed should I use to burn THE BEST music quality onto my CD-R discs? I use iTunes to burn my discs.

When I go to "About this Mac" on my laptop, and go under "System Report" and select disc burning, it says "Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose File > Refresh Information"

I then proceed to insert my blank 52x speed CD-R disc. I hit "Refresh system information."

The available speed(s) of 8x, 24x show up on my Macbook.

So, I'm assuming, and correct me if I'm wrong, my Macbook driver is able to burn to this specific CD-R disc at either an 8x or 24x speed.

Which one should I burn my music disc at? 8x or 24x speed? Many people online say burning at a lower speed creates less problems, but some say burning at higher speeds for a 52x disc is better for the music.

My question is, how do I know which speed is best??

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi buddy,

That's right burning on low speed is always better. But to be very honest i didn't find any difference in quality even when its on higher speeds.

Also note that the quality of the disk that you are using also matters.

But its always recommended to go with lower speeds if you are planning to reuse the same disk again and again by that way it will last longer than the one written on high speeds. As the possibility of the scratches on the disk is less.

And 52x simply means that you can write on higher speeds but also depending on the CD writer that you are using.

Abdul
