What type of ram can you install on the TP500L

Hi Guys

I have just bought a Asus TP500L and i would like to know the correct RAM that is required, as this has 4GB on board ram.

Would it be DDR3 and what bus speed would be compatible, i called the Asus tech line and got no answer from them "they do not give out upgrade information"

FYI i am using windows 10 64bit home

Any help will be great

You can get up to 8GB of RAM, providing that's it's:

DDR3L, SDRAM and a bus speed of 1600 MHz.

Usually more recent operating systems don't have an effect on the amount of RAM you can have unless you had a 32 bit architecture operating system which means your capped off at a 2GB usable RAM.

August Williams, not quite correct. Even the X86 32bit version of Win 10 supports 4GB of RAM. This is also true for all other versions of Win from XP up unless it was the Starter Edition.

Huh, that's the strange. Maybe I'm just tried, it's quite late for me. But I seem to remember being on a 32 bit OS and seeing in the "System" window that 4GB of RAM was installed but only 2GB was usable.

Can the 32 bit Windows 10 support more than 4GB of RAM?

Hi,

It's a bit more complicated. In 32 bit mode it is 2GB but that is per process, not overall and it's allowed to access physical RAM beyond 4GB. see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library...

and also https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library... if you want to get to the nitty gritty. I think the amount of RAM allowed to be installed is more dependent on what the PC maker decides than on the OS installed

With regard to the 'usable' RAM, then it may state what is available to the OS if it is to be shared between the integrated onboard video and the OS.

yes, I remember that in the late 80’s I had an ISA expansion board for graphic purposes where you had to plug in your own IC chips of 128Kb. Doublesided, full approxamatly 300mm boards.

Took out a month’s salary.. so nothing has changed.

Anyway, the max memory 80286 could address was indeed 4gig on board under DOS. Anything above would be addressed as Vmemory in which you could dedicate which part for OS, 3rd partysoftware and which part for ie. graphics.

worked well, some would have 16gig installed… the big budget companies.

And then there was Apple

since nothing has changed, just added, with MS/IBM compatables, I suspect Vmemory is just implemented somewhere in the modern OS. probably Physical Address Extension (PAE)

trouwens , ik vergat nog even te melden dat de mem upgrade afhankelijk is van het voltage...1.35V of 3.~V
