Will not take picture - battery dies quickly.

Hello,

My Canon Camera EOS 350d will not take pictures. I have new batteries and charged them up - not sure if charger is fully operative because batteries die quickly.

I have changed the coin battery and the main battery.

I get the icons in the window but when I press the button to take a picture nothing happens.
