iPhone 6 long screw damage or ESD?

I first tried connecting a new screen to replace the cracked screen and it didn't work.

I thought maybe the screen i got was bad so I tried the cracked screen again, that didn't work. Same as the last time black screen, no sound or vibration unless you plug in the charger.

So I reconnect the new screen again figuring if I'm going to get this to work it might as well be with the new screen. I connect it up and this time i get a backlight, nothing on the screen. I reconnect the ribbon cables and this time it comes on! While I'm testing this i have the cover off of the area where the 4 ribbon cables are. So I start to put that back on but I notice the screen gets white lines when I move the screen. I was real careful thinking that the ribbon cable must be jacked so I try not to move it while putting the cover back on but no luck getting the screen to go back on.

So I'm back where I started with no backlight/nothing on the screen. I started doing research and came up with either I have really bad luck or more likely some how I caused damage through long screw in the wrong spot or esd. When I did this I did not unplug the battery, I just turned the phone off. So that is where I think i may have cause esd damage. The video I watched he didn't do that unfortunately. If that is not it then I may have caused long screw damage, I was careful to put the screws in the the original spot but it may of happened.

I tried the soft reset multiple times as well as disconnecting the battery and holding the power button down to drain remaining power method.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

here is a picture of the one screw hole that I can't tell if it has damage, the other ones look fine. I wish I had a better magnifying glass...

I think my next step is to remove the screw hole thing and see if there is damage there. Is there a method for removing one of those? If it is esd then I feel like it might be beyond repair?

either way thanks for looking!

Hello!

I run across this in my repair stores quite often. On the iPhone 6, it is not as big of a problem putting that screw in that hole.

The fact that you were able to get light to the display is a good sign. It seems there are only two scenerios at this point: defective screen (that's my best guess since we see this EXACT same problem often) OR the digitizer connector on the motherboard is damaged and then it's not worth repairing. I would definitely try another screen battery unplugged while you repair, and then hard reset it. If it doesn't work, it appears the resistors on the digitizer connector on the motherboard have been damaged. Good luck!

I have solved this problem before by leaving out one of the five screws holding the metal plate on top of the ribbons. The one on the bottom left. If I put that screw back in the screen won’t power on. With it out the screen works fine. Could be an indicator of another problem with this particular phone. Worth a try ;)
