Left CMD key not working and trackpad partially not working

Hi all,

After a coffee spill, at first nothing really seemed wrong with my MacBook Pro (Mid 2009 Unibody 13''), but now I have two problems remaining, and my hypotheses would be a damage in the circuit, but I would like to test this with you:

1. Left CMD key not working at all

2. Trackpad partially not working: it does all the softclicks (just tap, no hard push) and scrolls (with two fingers), which performs the actions you want. It physcially clicks if you push it hard, but to no effect. Most irritating is that this means I can't do the " click and drag" to for example select a group of objects in powerpoint

Everything else seems to work fine.

Since both the CMD key and trackpad are involved, replacing the pad doesn't seem like the solution. But what is? Cleaning? Or is the circuitry ruined?

I tried:

- Take out CMD key and clean: no resolution

- Take out batery and check trackpad underneath: no clear spilling damage, no resolution

- Push all around the trackpad several times: no resolution

- Restart everything: no resolution

Any advice greatly appreciated!

- Replace tracepad: --> This wouldn't help the CMD key. So doesn'

Hi Mayer,

Thank you for the answer.

I don't mind replacing the uppercase or the keyboard (this is basically the keyboard and the trackpad combined, correct?), but would like to know if it will solve the problem beforehand.

Only replacing the trackpad seems much simpler. Do you think that would solve the trackpad issue? Or might the joint problem with the CMD key indicate that the problem with the pad is not directly in the trackpad itself?

Cheers,

G

You can replace the whole upper case

You can replace just the keyboard. Replacing the keyboard will take the average amateur 2.5 to three hours and lots of patience. I think there about 86 tiny screws to take out and put back in. I use an electric screwdriver to remove them. Here's the part: http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-NEW-Original...

Of course first you need to get it out, here's how: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Upper Case Replacement
