What is the selector for at the tip of the screwdriver?

I'm not sure what the selector at the top of the driver is for, there is a symbol with a hand and another with a power symbol. I'm not sure what these are meant for

It is the indicator for the screwdriver to be in either auto mode where the motor in the drill activates to spin the hex bit, or in manual mode is when you use the screwdriver as if it were a traditional handheld screwdriver(without the motor, spinning with your hand.) manual mode could be used if the screwdriver is running low on battery life and you don't have a screwdriver on hand. Take a look at the troubleshooting page for the LI2000.
