MB will not charger after a soda spill

Well to start off, I spill soda on the keyboard. My first reaction was to pull the charger and a quick shut down.

Now I've disassemble the whole book to pieces and cleaned everything out. I then reassemble the book back after a week of drying, and everything worked fine, you name it bluetooth, airport, superdrive, usb's, ethernet, etc,. I didn't think to check the charger until I was at 50% of charge.

When I connected the charger there was "no" "light", so I check the power reading and it recognize the battery and it's health but not the charger being plug in or the battery being charged. So I look up some trouble shooting I could do like resetting SMC, PRAM, no luck. By then my battery was at 25%. So I did the next think in mine to clean the contact of battery and DC board. No luck once again, so a bought another DC board hoping that was the issue. No luck again. Now it when to battery reserve power so no more testing for me. Now the MB work great the logic board just has that issue of recognizing the charger and charging the battery. Does anyone else know if I missed something? I did have Apple check the charger they gave it a green light. (By the way if your having a issue with your charger like the wires exposed, apple should be replacing those for free of charger, but they will ask you for the model # so make sure you have your serial # at hand). Has anyone had there logic board fix just for the charging issue? if so how bad was the issue? I do think that replacing my logic board will be a waste of money.

Well if you choose to replace the $665 logic board first that's certainly your prerogative, but be advised that it may not fix the problem.

If it were me, I would replace the cheaper possibilities first. The battery connector and the magsafe board. Sounds like you are close to an Apple store so I would take the battery in to test it and also retest the AC adapter to be sure.

I agree, replacing the I/O Board might resolve the issue. If the machine works fine on battery, then its the I/O Board. Replace that first.

Well did replace MagSafe DC in Board no luck there, then the battery connector too. but no luck there. I know what the Apple store would tell me right away it's the logic board, " You'll have to replace it" I for got to mention that i did purchase a new battery when I was trouble shooting the MB. So now it looks like I'll have look for an expert who could fix logic boards. Now it's time to look around town and fine some qualified in logic board repair shop. Good luck to me with that. But thanks to all for helping. But if you learn something new do let us know.

no, it might not be a waste of money.

i have a logic board for A1150 model, with non working superdrive connector. i know it is that connector, because i have shorted the board once. before it worked, after it didnt. you might have just blown a few microfuses, when soda spilled, but that is hard to fix. you probably need a new motherboard. my guess...

I here hear you, but if a find the right Qualified logic board repair shop ill take my chance with micro fuses. If all fails I'll part out the MB I could lease make 75% back without the logic board being included. S happen right. thanks for your thoughts.

hi there,

I'd the same probs with a MacBook UB Alu 2,0GHz from a friend.

The MB was dead after a soda spill and I tested all the components.

I've found out, that there is a very tiny board with the battery-state-LEDs on it... But on this board is much more: There is also the battery load control on it.

The soda spill flooded this board and the battery's energy did the rest... Most of the passive components on this board were destroyed and the "best": the whole machine seemed to be dead... But only this tiny board was defective!

I deactivated this board and the MB runs with Power Adapter connected (but not with battery-power!!!).

The board is connected by the little connector near the battery-connector on the mainboards other side.

The tiny battery-load-control board is located on the left side of the MB where the battery-state-LEDs are.

To get it out, you have to take out the metal-shield from the battery-connector. Now you can see the cable to this tiny board, behind a metal. There 4 screws holding the board. After loosening the four screws, you can take out this board and disconnect it from the cable to the mainboard.

If you have luck, your MacBook now is functioning by Power Adapter...

Now I'm looking for this battery load control board, to replace my defective one.

Anyone out there who knows where to get this board?

Best Regards

Georg

...This Battery-Indicator-Sleep-Board can be found at eBay:

Sorry for the very, very lat posting of this buy-solution.

I found it just after my posting in 2011, but forgotten to post it here for all of us ;-)

Greetings

Georg
