Battery problem after replacement

After replacing my battery (with a battery sold at an external website) the percentage is still dropping heavily. In like 1 hour of usage and 2 hours of standby it is dropped to ~62%. Though, at a certain moment, it does not drop this fast anymore. It seems like it is not calibrated well.. On top of that, coconut battery is not able to determine battery cycle count(it says that the cycle count is still 1 after multiple charge cycles) and it's maximum capacity. How can this be solved?

Updaten (09-03-16)

After contacting the reseller, i received a brand new original 'looking' battery. It looked exactly the same as the original battery, and after 1 cycle the battery lasted as (almost) as good as before. 17hrs stand-by and 6 hours of usage.

But, the problem of cycle count: 1 (cycled the battery twice now, it said 1 when i got the battery and 1 after i charged it for the second time) and the problem of unknown maximum charge is still there.. Is there anything else that can cause this problem?

I think you just need a quality battery. You could either have it exchanged from wherever you bought it from, or you could buy one from ifixit

Hi iMedic,

Hmm that might be the problem as i still think it is really strange that the load cycle sensor does not work properly. Do you know where the sensor is located, or how this load cycle works?

I live in Europe, unfortunately the battery is out of stock at eustore.ifixit.com/en/home/.. Any suggestions to purchase a quality battery elsewhere?

You can try Alibaba or aliexpress. Search for one that says oem. Still a gamble

Hi Daan

Can you test if the battery is good? If you have multimeter check if the battery is giving you the right voltage. If the battery is good then you need to check your charging connector if it is charging the battery. You will need to test the battery too.

If you don't have multimeter to check the battery and the charging port you can check them with another working phone. Just move the non working logic board to the working housing and if the problem persist this mean you have problem with your logic board.

If it is the logic board is most likely the U2 chip. You can see many videos in youtube how to replace it if you have the right equipment and skills.

Hope this help

Hi Mimi,

Thanks for the answer. I do not have a multimeter. But I don't get why you ask to check the charging connector if it is charging the battery? My battery does charge though it just draining in a strange way..

And what do you mean by moving the non working logic board? Why would my logic board be broken?

If you change again the battery and it is not working this mean that either your charging port is not charging the battery either your logic board have problem.

Like Mimi states if you try a new battery and you still have issues it is likely the logic board is the problem. You can damage the U2 chip from using non-Apple chargers and then you can start having symptoms as you describe.
