Power button not working after screen and base frame replacement.

Power button not working after replacing the screen and base frame. Black plastic button appears to contact white motherboard switch correctly, and physically depress it. Phone charges and screen works, so motherboard is overall intact. How can I assess if the motherboard electric switch is damaged? Can this be replaced without replacing the motherboard?
