E compass not working, phone getting hot too, without using any apps

Is your phone in warranty, if so I would shoot is back to apple for a replacement.
Sounds like a short on your board causing the phone to heat up.
Try turning location services off and if your handset stops heating up then your issue will more than likely be whats causing the problems.
