Why won't my volume buttons get pushed down?

Why won't my volume buttons get pushed down?

Whenever I try to push down the volume buttons on my tablet they seem to be stuck and refuse to get pushed no matter how hard I try. Please help.

First I would try to clean the button area with dry clean cloth or cotton swab. This is because dirt and grime can build up and cause the buttons to stick.
