Suddenly I got lines on my screen while playing video. Since browser was not responding I did forced shutdown. When I tried to reboot the system, it start with chime and apple logo appeared with lines followed by spinning wheel and finally white screen . Please advise on the possible issues .

Try booting from your original system installation DVD. Insert the DVD and restart holding down the "C" key. Run Disk Utilities and tell us if you are getting any of the same symptoms.
