Can't reboot after running fsck -fy mac
am in Snow Leopard
routine maintenance couldn't verify disk, went to DU to repair; told to reinstall OS. ran fsck -fy on terminal but last entry I typed was REBOOT. nothing happened. now cant boot at all. gray progress bar then it shuts down.
nothing works. cant eject disk; S user mode just spinning wheel.

Do you have a bootable external drive or the gray install disk the system came with? If you do give it a try.

the install disk is in the drive; makes no difference - yes, I'd like very much to just reboot off of that.
I've tried all the key combos (I think) nothing works -

after reviewing various suggestions elsewhere, it occurred to me that resetting the NVRAM might also have left my keyboard undiscoverable? is there a way to know? maybe this is why none of the key combos work any more - and everything went south after I did the reset -
