Why is my screen not displaying images?

My tablet hasn't been turned on in a while. I go to turn it on and the screen boots up to a gray screen but doesn't show the Samsung logo or anything, just gray. The screen appears to have a brighter gray along the border but nothing actually loads. It may also be important to note that the boot-up sound does go off when I attempt to turn it on just by holding in the power button.

Also when I try plugging it into my PC I get a message saying that the device malfunctioned and then the device promptly disconnects from the PC. I'm not sure the cause for either error.

My screen won't turn on at all so I am not able to do that set of commands since I wouldn't know when to release the buttons. I feel as though the screen is dead but I'm not sure since I've never seen a dead screen before

check battery voltage 1st if its holding a charge...if its good...check the lcd flex the connects the lcd to the board...
