notification on pull down screen

Is there any way i can turn off the notification on the pull down screen? I still want to receive notification that i have a new email but i dont want it to show on the pull down screen. when i try to disable this, it also turns off the notification completely. When i receive a new mail, i still want it to show on the email icon that i have 1 new mail, i just dont want it to show on the pull down notification screen.
