iPhone 6S Finger Sensor not working after screen replacement

Hi, i have 3 iPhone 6S LCD screens, 2 of them the LCD and touch are good, home button also good (can return to home page), but the fingerprint sensor not working. Only 1 LCD screen everything is fine (all working, including home button and finger sensor).

Anyone knows what happened to that 2 iPhone 6S LCD ? Is the finger sensor related to the LCD screen ? I just can not understand why the home button works but finger senor not working. Thanks !

Chances are that the home button extension cable which comes together with the iPhone 6s screen is faulty. You carefully transferred the home button itself carefully right?

Hi, thanks for your comment ! Yes, i know the home button extension cable comes together with the LCD screen. And I tested, the home button works perfectly, it can return to home page. The problem is the fingerprint sensor is not working, very strange. I have 3 iPhone 6S LCD Screens, only 1 LCD home button working and fingerprint sensor also working, only another 2 LCD the fingerprint sensor not working (but home button works - can return to home page)

Hi, I am a technician of eddogo company, I have repaired experience of this problem, I replace the screen(no replace the home button flex cable), and then home button work but fingerprint sensor not working. I try many ways to solve the problem, at last, I found it is the Motherboard Antenna Flex problem, but 6S motherboard antenna flex no easy to replacement, I recommend replace the backlight to try it again

hi, Thank you all for comments ! After I had a deep investigation, i found the fingerprint sensor is actually related with the screen. I tested 10pcs iPhone 6S LCD Screen, 7pcs everything is fine (home button can return to home page and fingerprint sensor is also good), 3pcs the home button can return to home page, but the fingerprint senor is not working.

So, i got a conclusion - if you bought a new 6S LCD Screen, and tested everything is fine but only fingerprint not working, then you have to return it to your supplier. Your supplier can fix the problem by replacing the backlight. The backlight is 3D metal plate, just change it, the screen will be fine.

Thank you very for your help

Every fingerprint sensor is permanently tied to the original phone it came with, you cannot swap the sensors.

It is likely that the sensor itself is damaged during replacement, if not, please check if you left the power on when replacing them, there could be electrical damage.

Edit: the following picture is the microscopic image of the cable from Google, just to show you how thin and fragile the cable is. It is very possible for the cable to be damaged during the teardown.

Hi. No, the fingerprint sensor was not damaged, because it works perfectly on one of the 3 LCD screens. The home button can return to home page and i can add my fingerprint to unlock. My problem is:

Why ?

1 LCD screen, everything is fine. Both home button and fingerprint sensor work.

Another 2 LCD screens. The home button works but finger senor not working.

Power on and power off and pull battery both can not help. I have tested the 3 lcd screens on my phone 3 times, the same result.

So I believe the cable underneath the LCD is damaged. Since it is fused with 3D Touch sensors, you cannot replace it easily, you need a new display assembly.

But, i have tested, i connect my home button on the LCD, the home button works (return to home page), just fingerprint sensor not working. As i said i have 3 iPhone 6S LCD, my motherboard and home button are good. When i test the 3 LCD, one LCD everything is fine (home button can return to home page, fingerprint sensor also works), but another 2 iPhone 6S LCD, when i test (use the same motherboard and its unique home button), the home button works but fingerprint sensor not working.

So, do you think the fingerprint sensor is fused with 3D Touch sensor ? You must know on iPhone 6 (Not iPhone 6S) LCD, there is an extended home flex cable on the metal plate, right ? this cable only control home button returning to homepage, nothing to do with fingerprint sensor, right ? So i thought iPhone 6S is the same, that cable only controls returning to homepage. But, it still not confirmed. i Just thought, not 100% sure.

No I meant the cable is fused into the screen, not the Touch ID sensor, the button and the Touch ID function runs on separate traces. So why do you think they are even relevant?

The cable on iPhone 6 that runs through the back plate manages both the button and the fingerprint. It can break "partially" so only one of the functionalities is lost.

hi i just got the same problem watch you people reviews and got the answer which work for me, hopefully it should be working for you as well.

i change the screen for my customer and the touch id does't work, then we update the software which doesn't help then i realise to change the screen again and then i change the screen again and then it does work, which means the cable on the old screen was faulty. so best of luck guys...

reset all settings, then try a restore, look for any rips on either HB cables, failing that try and put the old screen back on and take it back to apple for a replacement, try not to leave any fingerprints as apple decline replacements if worked on by a third party.

The problem is different when it comes to 6 and 6s

The 6 use the oem flex and the original home bottom then it works fine. For the 6s since replacing the LCD means losing the oem flex , that also means losing the Touch ID functionality. Replaced by Apple fine.

This is no longer the case as it was a software "gotcha" by apple trying to disable phones that get their screen replaced by non Apple technicians. Apple admitted to wrong doing and fixed the issue with a software update. Just as long as you have the original home button you should be good.

It depends what 3rd party screen you use. I know I have several, some work some dont. meaning they dont support the touch ID a lottery really. tried and tested,

Hi,did you change the flex cable?

I think it is the problem of flex cable, because if flex cable is not original, the function of fingerprint is not useful.

Replacing the home button effectively makes the touch ID / fingerprint not functionable as the original home button is required due to being linked to the board.

Hi Ben,thanks for your comment.I think you are very professional on repairment.

In fact,I meant the flex cable need from original iPhone 6S.

One motherboard to one home button flex cable, it must be one to one correspondence, so if you replace the home button flex cable, it can't work.

I know each motherboard has its own unique home flex cable (fingerprint sensor). I did not change the Home flex cable. This is why i have 3 iPhone 6S LCD Screens, one of them the fingerprint sensor works perfectly. My problem is another 2 iPhone 6S LCD, when i test (use the same motherboard and its unique home button), the home button works but fingerprint sensor not working,

Hi Peter,I think it is the problem of backlight, maybe you can try to replace it.

By the way,my colleague Alan also answered your question.

We hope this product can help you :) :)

Hi, I know this topic has been here for a while but wanted to share what I did to get the finger print/Touch ID working again. As a side note I only have this issue with black screen never white screen replacements. Anyway, changed a screen for a customer, Touch ID stopped but home button worked. Tried another screen same thing. Also the Touch ID selection within the settings was greyed out now.

Got the original crack screen that had the original touch ribbon. Connected the home button ribbon it then the new screen to the iPhone logic board. I did a restore through iTunes which brought the Touch ID settings back. But still wasn’t allowing me to use it. Then I put the new screeen and home button together and did another restore which worked and everything is back to normal.

I know this sounds a bit crazy but it worked.
