Why does only the original LCD work?

Help! I've repaired dozens of ipad's and mini's and never encountered this issue!

Customer broke ipad mini digitizer and cracked LCD. Only half of the original LCD works.

After opening the ipad, I always, always, always disconnect the power before replacing the digitizer and LCD. (So shouldn't be a problem with the fuse or diode.)

But I've tried 5 new LCD's and none work! I started to think I had a bad batch that missed quality, but all 5??

This is the kicker.... I plug the original LCD back in and get the half broken display again. I've done this many, many times switching out LCD'S and still, nothing works but the original.

I can't get any LCD to work except for the original!

I have a streroscope, and I'm a very experienced microsolderer (12 years working in the aerospace industry).

I don't see that there is any charring of parts, all solder looks good (no pinholes, cracks, etc) all connectors are 100% intact.

3 of my LCD'S are from etech parts, 2 from ifixit. These are quality companies, not ebay or Amazon parts.

What could be the issue? The filter capacitor and diode test fine (from reading other message boards). I need help please!!

Holy Crap! There is 1 small difference between the original, and the 5 new ones I have that I didn't notice!

Here's a picture, you can see a connector attaching differently.

The one on the right is the original, the one on the left is a new screen.

Model is A1489, so how do I find the correct LCD replacement? IFixit is sold out. Good recommendations appreciated!!

Compare the board on the back of the original LCD to the 5 you have in stock. I bet the original looks different than your in-stock LCDs. If they do, it's because either the original was a retina screen and yours are not or vice-versa. Same connector, they will fit, they just won't work. Let me know

This is true, check the OEM, model numbering on the LCD ribbon cable. If you try an incompatible screen it will either no display or show apple logo and no display after finishing boot or trying to finish boot.

OEM's are like LG, Samsung I think. They are not identical when you compare the LCD inverter / or whatever it was called board behind the LCD.

I encountered this issue once, but never got stuck with that issue again as I can identify whether it is retina screen or not. Thus why I have both LCDs in stock always.

If I'm correct the ones with retina have extra glue at the bottom of the LCD which makes it harder to take off than the non-retina ones.
