MacBook won't detect startup disk, internal flash drive. Bad Flash?

All of a sudden my Macbook froze and after restarting the file with the question mark came up. I tried to load the HDD but it was missing. Since the SSD doesn't have a cable to connect, is it probably a bad SSD?

Update (08/12/2016)

I tried to boot it up with the alt key pressed but it gives a black screen with the apple and then a circle with a cross through it. I can't reinstall because it gives an error and says to reboot only to restart and get the black screen again. I have a TimeMachine backup available but it will not allow me to reinstall.

Update (09/17/2016)

I ordered a new Flash Drive via OWC and installed it, now my Macbook Pro is working like new! It was rather expensive for the new drive but instead of bringing it to a Shop and spending even more, I followed the instructions from this site and the install went off with out a hitch.

hello, probably the operating system has lost the boot files, should not be physically dead. try to start up your Mac with the alt key pressed and you boot from the recovery disk, then repairs the permissions and disk by disk utilities. in last chance by reinstalling the operating system, only the system files I think he asks. whereas if you have a TimeMachine backup available, you can also do a clean install

I tried pressing alt, command, P & R but now it gives the same black screen with a folder with a question mark on it

I tried running internet recovery but disk utility will not detect a hard drive

hello, if you have a backup with TimeMachine not afraid. creates a bootable usb with the operating system, on the internet you can find many guides that teach you to do this thing. after please always boot with the alt key pressed and choose USB key you have prepared with macos. at this point from the usb partition recovery you can repair the tell and its permissions. or format it in order to install the new MacOS

hello, I didn't see your reply til now... I connected an external drive and was able to run a clean install of OS X. For some reason I couldn't install from my Time Machine until I restarted and was then able to get back my files but it still will not detect my flash storage in startup options or "about this Mac" under storage. I was able to get back into disk utility but the flash storage still does not show up as an option. I ran apple diagnostics and it said there is something wrong with the storage so it is detecting it on some level. In disk utility it shows my external USB drive and an Apple disk image with OS X Base System. I haven't tried your advice but I think I basically created a bootable usb and when pressing alt and going into the partition recovery it still does not give me the option to repair the internal flash SSD because it is not detecting it.

hello, as I understand it you have installed a new Mac OS X on ssd and then put the TimeMachine backup? This can cause problems because the backup restore everything as it was before in some cases. when you put the new installation of OS X apply now check and repair, personal files you have to pick them manually by timemachine once you've verified the full functionality of the ssd. Now having said that if the operating system is running than before. you proof that I said a recovery partition installed on an external drive

You will need access to another Mac, but try using disk maker X on another Mac. You can make a bootable usb to reinstall el captain or whatever os you had.
