How does the hinge need to be oriented to be correctly seated?

Trying to replace the hinge and housing, when inserting the hinge either it spins freely in the lower housing or it hits the plastic parts on the sides and looks like its going to snap them. I know its supposed to click when the top screen is rotated but I just can't get it right. Where is the hinge lip supposed to sit?
