I changed the LCD panel, now the backlight does not work.

I was given this laptop with a very broken inner screen but the backlight did work. So I thought I would just replace the LCD panel, this seemed like a good idea until the panel came in the mail and I installed it and the backlight did not turn on. I was able to put the flashlight on my phone behind the panel and i did determine that the panel does turn on. Does anyone know why this would happen?

Okay, so something else just changed. I plugged the laptop into another display just so that I could install an operating system and now the LCD panel will not turn on either.
