iOS 10 - Touch ID Failed after screen replacement HELP!

Hello,

I've replaced a fair few iPhone screens but since iOS 10 it seems that even if I use the original home button I still get the error that the Touch ID Failed. When I go into the settings it does not get past the on / off part, then says failed again when I go to put a fingerprint in.

I've tried hard resets etc. I always unplug the battery when I do the repair. I have not tried flashing the software but as I have many customers come in I'm concerned if thats the case for each repair then I'd lose the repairs altogether.

Any solutions or advise? Has anyone else expierenced this?

Thank you

I can't count the number of iPhones I've repaired and I have never run into this. It has to be something that you are doing.

If a reset doesn't fix it, then its almost certainly hardware. What tool are you using to disconnect the home button flex? You aren't using metal tweezers I hope?

Hello, I'm using a plastic prying tool. Repaired around 100ish before the iOS 10 update and it's only that software that seems to be causing this problem. It's too coincidental.

Every time iOS updates, there is a mass panic that Apple did something. Every. Single. Time.

I have an iPhone 6 sitting beside me that I swapped every part possible on short of the home button and logic board. I used the cheapest parts I could find just to test to see if cheap parts were an issue. It works fine.

Sorry I can't offer more help other than to make sure you power down the phone, then unplug the battery before you disconnect anything. Make sure you don't power up the screen until the home button is installed and connected.

iOS10 is the first time Apple added the Touch ID Failed message. So you may have damaged the Touch ID sensor before, but not realized. Some people don't use it, so your customer may not have realized either.

I have never had that issue either, when transferring the original button. The home button or possibly the long flex cable must be getting damaged during the repair.

Hi David & Josh, I've repaired 22 phones since the update with iOS 10. 6 of them have displayed this error. 3 of those 6 went away with a hard reset. The problem is we take every precaution like advised above. Battery is always removed, plastic prying tools used to disconnect things etc. So I'm stumped with this one, but I am sure it's tied in with something in the update and not previous damage, as some of these phone have not been repaired before and the Touch ID functioned before the battery was unplugged. We had one today which we opened, unplugged the battery and then reconnected (Without replacing anything or unplugging anything else other than the battery) and then BOOM Touch ID Error message.

is TouchID enabled for iTunes & App Store purchases? Display repairs with iOS10 can fail is this is enabled.

It is related to ios 10 devices.

You should unplug the battery before you disassemble the cables.

You can also restore the home button Touch ID when you put the iPhone in DFU mode and perform a repair and restore.

If I didn't unplug the battery how can I fix it?

I have the same question as amitlisha123.

It has nothing to do with flex cable. It's the update that detects screen being removed and touch id will be disabled after. That's how Apple makes more money. No solution yet.

That error has been long patched. Apple even apologized for it publicly.
