How do I fix my Jaybird X2? faulty power button

How long have you had the headphones?

If less than 12 months (or if is just a bit over and they argue, complain about premature failure of a premium product) contact the manufacturer regarding a warranty repair or replacement.

It's a simple and robust machine. I used my first until the battery life's done, second until I ran it over with my car. However, on the third I ran into similar problem.

1. Takes multiple tries to turn on the headset.

2. It turns off by itself when the battery power is still left.

3. Automatically went into pairing mode after turning it on.

All indicating power button failure.

These are things you can do. In that order.

1. Reset the headset:

Get into the pairing mode by turning it on and keep the button pressed until the red/green lights blink.

Press volume up and down buttons simultaneously until yellow light blinks three times and turns itself off.

Clear the jaybird pairing profile from your device(s).

Turn it on and pair it with the device.

2. Another reset method:

Press power button 8 times in quick but distinct successions before pressing it for 5 seconds at 9th click.

Turn it off.

Repeat it one more time.

Clear the jaybird paring profile from your device(s).

Turn it on and pair it with the device.

3. Button metal cap displacement issue:

I went on to disassemble the switch assembly and I found the same thing emericrobert found. The button was slightly misplaced and I corrected the position.

I did it by submerging the assembly into 100% isopropanol for a while to soften the glue, and carefully disassembled it. It's full of glue and it's so easy to ruin it. Do it right before throwing it out.

How do you disassemble the handset?

I’ve disassembled my faulty jaybird x2s and this is the result. The problem seems to be with the buttons as the metal plates seem to be working correctly. When I put the buttons back on, then the auto redialling and all the wacky stuff resumes.

Anybody has any pointers on how to go about fixing these buttons?

Athul Jayson, the most probable culprit behind your issues is the middle metal dome sticker.

You can see it is slightly misaligned, that most likely causes a constant contact like the button is always pressed.

Lift the white sticker up with a blade and reposition it directly over the circle contact.

See if that fixes it for ya.

made an account on this website just to say that this worked!the housing is a bit tricky to pop open but i just used my fingernails and patience and it came off. i just pushed the white part/metal a bit until it was not in contact and that was all that was needed.

I had similar problems with the control menu so after seeing this post and image, I managed to repair my jaybird x2. Only thing is that these stickers keep moving so once in a while I have to reopen the case to readjust their location. How can I secure the stickers on the surface? Normal scotch tape would work for such a purpose?

Please advice.

First, I’d like to Emericobert and Athul - Emericobert for the original answer, and Athul for the updated photos (originals were lost). The solution worked for me, and I’m grateful for them for delaying my replacement purchase…

I’d like to add a few things.

• The first is a suggestion for a tool. Instead of using screwdrivers (which will mangle your cover and break the tabs), go into your recycle bin and find flat, clear plastic, of the type used for blister packaging (you know the plastic front, paper-backed packages?) Find some pieces that are relatively thin. This plastic is thin enough to slide between the casing and will not break the tabs if done SLOWLY. It is frustratingly slow, but it works. If the plastic gets too bent up, cut it flat again and try agin.
• Next is to stress that it is the BOTTOM of the cover that is popped off… Almost ruined my wires by missing that point
• And finally, the “tape holding the metal cup” is actually the WHITE rectangle with the metal cup - looks like a bubble of solder. If you work a blade under the white part then slowly peel up the white label, the whole thing comes off. Have tweezers handy to re-apply because finger oils are the enemy!
