Why is my optical driver not spinning all the time?

Issue began about a week ago (around the same time as newest PS4 update).

I can put the disc in and it will start to spin but then it will start clicking. The clicking sounds as if it is trying to start spinning. It will continue this until it stops completely. Powering the unit off will sometimes correct the issue.

I have already tried to turn on in safe mode and reinstall the most recent update.

I have already purchased and installed a new optical drive. I also took the motherboard from the old drive and put it on the new one since the old is "married" to PS4.

Short of sending my PS4 to Sony for repair, what are my options?

It's hard to know for sure without being able to look at it in my shop but there are several things to keep in mind.

The first is that anytime you buy a "new" disc drive it's not actually new. It's just been taken out of a PS4 and sold. They don't make new disc drives for them so it's possible that the laser is faulty on the replacement drive.

The second thing is that sometimes there are components on that green drive board that go bad. I've had to repair quite a few of them that were faulty.
