Hi,

Try the following,

Disconnect the charger if connected, then remove the battery from the laptop.

Press and hold the power button on the laptop for about 15 seconds then release the button.

Reconnect and switch on the charger (leave the battery out at this stage).

Start the laptop by pressing the Power button.

If the laptop starts, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop. Allow it to 'settle' for a few minutes.

Then shutdown the laptop in the normal manner.

When the laptop has fully shutdown, switch off the charger and disconnect it from the laptop.

Re insert the battery into the laptop, reconnect and switch on the charger, then switch on the laptop.

Allow the laptop to boot all the way to the Windows desktop.

When it has finished booting and the Windows desktop is displayed, check the charging state of the battery. If it is charging allow it to fully charge before switching off the charger and disconnecting it from the laptop

Hopefully this is of some help.

It worked out. Thanks so much.

I changed to a new battery a few days ago. It worked fine untill now, when it stopped to charge. After I used the above solution it works again, but I guss only for a few days. How is the battery management done and why does it helt to remove and insert the battery??

Hi @ painguy,

The above procedure is used to reset the BIOS settings to their default values in case they have become corrupted for whatever reason, preventing the laptop from operating correctly.

After you do the reset does the battery fully charge when the laptop is starting OK with the charger connected?

Use a DMM's (digital multimeter) Voltmeter function to check the voltage output of the laptop's AC adapter (charger) to make sure that it is supplying the correct voltage. It should be +20VDC

Here's a link to the IdeaPad s100 service manual, if this is what you have

Go to p.19 to view how to test the voltage from the charger and also how to test that the battery is being charged correctly

Hi. I can see now that is only charge up till 25%.and have stopped charging. I wil check the voltage later

20,21 volt from charger.

I simply removed the battery. Pressed and held the power button for 15 seconds. Then reconnected the battery and powered the laptop.

This worked out.

This process of dropping the battery would not work for me. I had to resort to pressing the “Novo Button”. See instructions in the User Guide referenced in previous answer above. Find the small hole with what looks like a tiny headphone jack icon. Use a paperclip to press while powering on. This will bring up a boot menu that will allow a “Normal Restart" and other options to restore the laptop's Windows install from restore partition.

I chose Normal Restart, which got me to a desktop. I found that Windows had been corrupted by some malware. I used the Windows Settings>Update & Security>Recovery>Reset This PC to reinstall Windows without losing personal data. This worked fine I did not lose docs as you would with a reformat and fresh reinstall but I need to reinstall apps now. But my kid has his machine back and peace has been in my home.
