What do I need to change my SIM card reader

Hello everyone

SIM card reader

First, i want to say that this thread could help many many people around the world to make the repair and not only me. And help each other is the best thing that Internet gave us.

So i will try to put a new SIM card reader on an iPhone 4S logic-board and this will be my first soldering project. But like everything, you need to start from somewhere or you'll never start ;) I would like to know if some of you guys could take few minutes of your time to help me in the realization by giving essential information, tips, classic mistakes, etc...

First of all, i'm not even sure what type of WIRE i should use, i hear about the 63/37 but i don't know the size in (mm) there are plenty like 0.1 to 1mm. I guess i need a little one because well the pins are so small but does it really matter? Thank you

Some info people would like to know is :

1. A list of every items we "need" to proceed the iPhone reparation by soldering and what is their utility

2. A list of step to proceed the reparation for example : step1. apply the flux/solophane?? step2. remove the old soldering wire with a 190°(??) temperature, etc...

In advance, thank you very much for every contribution. Have a great day and sorry for my English.

You are asking for a lot of information when that information is already widely available on the internet. Soldering and especially micro-soldering, is a skill that is acquired through trial & error, patience and perseverance.

It also depends on the type of budget you are willing to invest. Is this a one-off repair or are you looking to become more skilled for future projects and repair? There are quality tools that will make this kind of repair relatively straightforward. Low-cost tools can work but you need to have a lot of skill to compensate for their inherent weaknesses. For example, there are videos from Vietnam that show you how skilled repairers can do near-magic while working with the barest of equipment (I wish I could understand their commentary).

To be honest, starting to solder on an iPhone is a recipe for disaster. Regardless of the equipment you have or will buy, start practicing on old electronics first. Some through-hole pcb's and then SMD.

I would highly recommend you look at youtube channels such as:

iPadRehab: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPjp41q...

Louis Rossmann: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl2mFZo...

EEVBlog: http://www.eevblog.com/

They have specific videos on the equipment and concumables they use. iFixIt also has a great series on micro-soldering (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...) that is well worth watching.

Perhaps others will add more details but I just think you need to do a bit more research first before attempting to repair an iPhone.

Welcome to the fix-it world and good luck.
