Random crashes when power cord disconnected.

Hi there,

Last June I got the motherboard of my MBP 15" Late 2011 replaced because it had a faulty graphics card.

Now I'm getting random crashes, when the MacBook is not connected to the power.

After it crashes it won't turn on, I have to do this trick with opening the lid, connecting/disconnecting the power cord and pressing the power button.

IF it turns on, the time and date are reset.

First I tried to usual (SMC Reset, HDD check, etc.) and this did not solve my problem.

After acknowledging that my battery was running out very quickly, I decided to replace it.

After replacing the battery, it worked for a while when disconnected.

But now it starts crashing again, mostly directly after disconnecting the power plug.

Any help would be appreciated.

whats on console log at time crashing?

coconut battery can help to determinate better how is your battery status.

how about your ram? try one by one or change?

The console log doesn't log anything about this crash, it is as it has never happened.

I've tried coconut battery and it says everything is fine.

I haven't tried my RAM honestly, but to me it doesn't seem like it's the problem since the date resets. I will try it though

The MBP 15" Late 2011 is plagued with issues like this. I highly recommend you go back to Apple and have them replace your logic board. The logicboard has lost its ability to connect the power it receives from the magsafe to power the battery properly. Usually this means bad battery or LB failure but since you have the cursed late 2011 model it's probably the LB. Apple offers an extended warranty for this computer tho. Make an appointment at the genius bar and see if they will swap out your LB. Best of luck!

Thanks, this is what I was afraid of.

And sadly I can not return it to the Apple Store as I opened up the laptop myself.

The 1st replacement was done by a certified external company, so I hope they still offer warranty, else there's not much to do I suppose.

Even if you opened up the laptop yourself doesnt mean they won't touch it. It's only if they can tell you opened it up. Yea, I would take it back to the repair shop who repaired it. Any reputable repair shop will have at least a 90 day warranty for parts and labor.
