RAM not always recognized

My MacBook Pro crashes occasionally upon deep sleep (closing the shell, etc.) and upon reboot no longer recognizes the RAM in the second slot. After some time (or reseating the RAM), it recognizes it again. I've tried changing the chips (same clock speed) but the problem persists. I'm wondering if this is potentially a problem with the slots, but fear that it's a problem with the logic board. Expert advice is very welcome.

It's an issue with the slots if you have tried new RAM. These slots split in 2 pieces and are soldered through the logic board. I do not know anyone who replaces the slots, since they cannot be bought new, so they have to be carefully desoldered from a donor board and resoldered onto the new board, all without bending any of the pins.

Either replace the logic board, remove RAM from the bad slot, and increase the RAM size in the good slot, or sell it on eBay for spares.

Take a good stick only and put in in one slot and boot. Now move it to the other slot and boot.

This test both the RAM and the slot.

Now try it with the other stick.

If it fails in both slots, it is bad. You may have shocked it.

Occasionally a slot can go partially bad and will take a stick with less RAM on it.

If you only have one good slot and the good stick is not enough RAM you can upgrade to a stick with more RAM and live off one good slot.
