Successfully replaced the Digitizer Screen assembly, but there is an opaque crescent shaped halo around the outer edges of the front facing camera. I'm thinking it may not be pushed all the way in its recess. Any other ideas before I go back in digging?

Did the replacement screen come with the camera pre-installed or did you move it over from the cracked screen?
If you moved it, chances are it's not lined up properly. Follow this guide to insure everything is in the proper position.

I opted to move the camera over from the cracked screen feeling like I wanted to keep as many genuine Apple parts as possible that I knew were fully tested and functioned perfectly. Saving $10 wasn't the real motivator, but it didn't hurt.
My assumption is similar to yours. Perhaps the camera is not quite snapped into it's retaining socket as it needs to be. I believe the symptom would be more severe if it were an electronic problem. The slight halo along the left edge is a nuisance more than a serious issue.
