PC Starts but then Shuts Down Immediatley

Hello,

I have just built a new PC over weekend, however when I press the power button the PC boots for a split seconds then shuts down does this for around 30 seconds to a minute then boots up as normal. If i reboot then depending if it doesn't shut down fully i am OK.

originally i wasn't getting any Display when first built and I noticed one of the Pins were bent and managed to straiten it out with a needle do you think this is still an issue? or could it be my CPU.

If i put 1 RAM in its eventually boots, if i stick 2 in it just recycles everytime.

I have the following:

Asus Z270E - Gaming MOBO

Corsair Vengance 16GB RAM

Core i7-7700K 4.20GHz

Nvidia 1050TI Graphics Card

Hi,

Just wondering what you are 'booting' to and if this might be the problem - power wise?

Are you just starting the pc to get past POST or do you have other hardware installed e.g. HDD, (or SSD), ODD etc.? If other hardware disconnect power and cables from all unnecessary items leave onlybarebones i.e. RAM, Video card and keyboard and see if it passes through POST first time and gives a message on screen about no bootable device etc

Hi,

I have the following connected:

Nividia 1050TI Graphics Card

1 TB SSD

2 1TB HDD

1 CD Drive

Thanks i will try that and let you know.

You say it will boot with one stick not both . Is the board duel channel and are you putting the sticks in the right slots? Most Asus boards are duel channel and as such you need to put the sticks in the first and third slot or the second and forth to run two sticks .If its running ddr 3 however if its running ddr4 it could be different . Check with the asus site or with the manual that came with the motherboard .If you have them in the right slots and get no joy then try using each sticks in the first slot in turn and see if both sticks work . You may have got one bad stick . wouldn't be the first time.

Yes I have my RAM Sticks in A2 and B2 and i am running DDR4. and was booting for 5 seconds just goes off and goes on a infinite loop and I knew that issue was faulty RAM.

@dmatt7176 Just a thought but try unplugging the 2 hd and the cd drive then try to boot . 550watts may be a little light for what your trying to run. take the 3 drives out of the equation . they all want power at startup so if it is a power issue then without them it should boot fine. Are the 2 hds running in raid or just for storage?

Hi David,

When a computer boots it goes through POST (Power On Self Test) If the computer fails POST it will emit a pattern of beeps. You may need to connect the little speaker to the motherboard to hear them. Refer to the manual that came with the motherboard to decipher the beeps. If you do not have the manual you can always google the model number to find the manual. It sounds like you have a bad stick of ram.

Thank You,

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I have 2 new RAM sticks coming is it possible both stick could be faulty? I have the speaker connected and when it does boot I get 1 Beep and the machine fires up all well and good.

However when I shut the machine down and power it on, the machine goes through a split second boot as if it trying to jump start, fans jump then it stops does that for around 30 seconds to a minute then boots up.

it a bit hard to explain, but its an annoyance :-)

When it does boot up is that with one stick or both? Are there any error messages? How many watts is your power supply? It is definitely possible that both ram sticks are bad.. These things often come DOA. It is also very important that you do not touch the gold contacts. The smallest ESD can destroy RAM.

It boots with 1 stick and nope no error messages, my PSU is 550Watt.

Also sometime when it does power on, and its not shutting its sometimes doesn't even POST i have to take power cable out and boot again. i am wondering if possibly its MOBO or its shortening possibley?

Hi David,

Sorry for the delayed response. It really sounds like a power issue. possibly under powered or defective.

haha, i have had the same issue a few times about a year ago and once again yesterday. originally thought my gpus were dying out (they are). had a feeling it wasnt the cause though..did all the solutions i could find...nothing worked. unplugged psu from mobo first time and reconnected...booted up. next time i just pushed on it. booted. yesterday, did solutions to be sure, then pushed on psu connector to mobo...booted up. weird...because i know there isnt a short. really dont know. worth a shot haha.

Bit late to the party on this but thought I'd post anyway. I had exactly the same problem with my Asus Maximus Ranger VII motherboard. Boots for a second then switches off and boots again repeatedly. Press down on the Power connector and it boots fine. After checking the board I found dry joints on the button marked MEMOK. I resoldered the 4 pins of the button and the problem was solved. System now boots perfectly every time.

When you press this button the motherboard tries to adapt the BIOS settings to use your RAM sticks when they're not 100% compatible. The computer will reboot itself. Upon reboot, the message "Memory OK! Succeeds in system booting! ..." Appears.

If you hold the button down without releasing it the Board will continuously reset itself in the manner that we have been seeing. The button is a "push to break" type, meaning pressing the button breaks the circuit rather than connecting it. The dry joints on the button effectively break the circuit simulating the button being held down.
