iPhone 6s - Battery level drops suddenly without warning

My daughter and I both have an iPhone 6S that experiences sudden drops in battery level causing the phones to shut down. This happens from 35%-50% battery levels. Plugging the phone into a power source re-starts the phone with the battery level again indicating 35%-50%. This is an identified issue and Apple has a repair program if your serial number falls within a certain range. Both of our phones qualify so the reason I've posted this question is to help others who might not be aware of the program. This program is in effect for 3 years after purchase and the fix is no cost to the consumer.

I post this here only because the program is not widely advertised and others may benefit from this information. I've been a user of Apple gear since 1995 and am a lifelong fixer.

I forgot to add that this repair is at no cost to the consumer and takes about an hour if you take your phone to an Apple Store. You could alternatively send the phone to Apple but the turnaround is 7 days.

I would like to add that Apple often decides you have a new problem, and wants you to pay for it. Or more likely they want you to buy a new phone. Also, it doesn't take an hour. It takes twenty minutes to see a person, then likely another 3-4 hours to have something taken care of

While goin to Apple can sometimes be beneficial. I've found more often than not, that's not the case. I would advise checking how much it would cost, and if they would deem you have more problems, and basically want more money from you. This is the route I would go

Also, it's important to know, that after removing the display and battery, it's very important to discharge the battery. Holding down the power button for four seconds, as the newer iPhones hold a charge, and can hurt parts, when connected back to the phone

It has everything to do with the op. If you like apple and their cold cryptic answers that suck up all your dollars. More power to ya. However around here, we're more about finding solutions that help and save the community money. Also, we all knew about this. But thanks for bringing it to our attention anyways

As said and to piggy-back on his response above, I would check on replacing your battery.

It would be advised to let a trusted professional do the replacement so that the adhesives holding your screen assembly down could be replaced after, so that you would maintain the water resistance on your 6s.

Water resistant, not water-proof sir.

You as a tech should know the difference. Adhesives are on to maintain a level of water resistance for the device.

I know the difference...Apple does not state anywhere that the iPhone 6S is water resistant. It has extra adhesives, yes, but Apple does not claim any water resistance. That is for the iPhone 7 only.

Check for yourself before telling others they are wrong.

No such spec or mention anywhere.

Like I said...The iPhone 6S is not officially water resistant.

The point of this post was to inform that the device should be returned back to factory as close as possible, including reapplying adhesives on the perimeter to maintain a level of "water resistance". Your extra chime in that has nothing to do with the initial issue of the post and speaks volumes to the level of repair you must do.
