no need to drill. the layout of the flex on the top and rear of the headphone jack would be destroyed! you will however need to open iphone to back case (remove motherboard, no need to remove battery)- I tried to do this without taking the entire headphone jack flex off and it can be done but it's a bit tricky...

undo screw on headphone jack (top upper left)

undo screw that is hidden under connector 6 (holds bend of headphone jack flex.)

next lift plastic tab of battery(not the battery itself) and very carefully slide plastic spudger along length of flex at top of battery, sit this unstuck section on top of battery tab so that you will have some stretch to remove the headphone jack.

gently slide headphone jack from it's housing, you will then be able to lift flex from rear of headphone and you'll see a small hole-use something like a bamboo stick or small screw driver to push out the stuck headphone.

stick flex back on and reverse the procedure

i am almost certain, you would be able to push it out using some needle or pin. necessity is, to open up your device and not to be afraid of drilling. just be careful not to damage logic board, otherwise, you have just turned it into junk...

i use this method on macbooks, but i cant see why it wont work for most devices either..

use a paperclip with a plastic coating, straighten it out, place a very, very small dab of super glue on the end, (very small dab, to much and it will run inside the jack and ur screwed)insert the paper clip and make contact with the broken piece of headphone, hold it in place for a few mins.. be careful not to move the paperclip with the very small amount of glue on it or it may not bond... after a few mins of holding it in place it should stiffen up to the point where you can let it go and it will stay in place.. wait like 10mins more for a stronger bond then pull the clip straight out along with the broken headphone piece. (i work in a school, and have used this method numerous times with success every time)
