Why Smart Cover locks the iPad when flipped at back panel after LCD re

Hello everybody,

Like many subjects on this issue i found on the forum, i encountered a weird behavior with my Smart Cover after replacing LCD ONLY on my iPad Air.

When the Smart Cover is on the screen, it locks itself normally.

But it locks itself too when flipped to the back panel of the iPad.

I read many things on tons of topics but none with clear answers to those simple question:

- what is causing this?

- where are those sleep/wakes sensors?

- how do they work?

- where are the magnets on the frame?

I precise that i only changed the LCD assembly and used the original digitizer and home button (I read some topics indicating cheap home button causing the problem)

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

The magnets are under the frame on the right side of the iPad. Sometimes, ( I have had this happen) they shift during repair. They act like the magnets that you can buy at souvenir shops that stack. The ones in the iPad are similar, but slender. There are about 5 or 6 I believe. If they shift or rotate at all, then you can have some facing the wrong way. From my experience, I had to make sure all the magnets were lined up properly. It's very aggravating I know. Since you used the original digitizer, that's not the problem from what I know.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I don't think that the magnets are a part of the smart cover sleep/wake function. Pretty sure that this is handled by a sensor on the home flex, possibly in conjunction with a proximity sensor. The magnets simply keep the smart cover in place.

Is it possible that you might've damaged the home flex in any way during the repair, or maybe that the glass isn't quite as adhered to the housing after replacing the LCD?
