My Huawei mate s just went to a basic screen with just a dial pad, camera, voice record, flashlight and that is it. I did take out the sim, cleaned it and put it back. Still the same.

This is a problem with your phone is most likely not hardware, but software. Got to settings, apps. Click advanced then default apps. Select launcher and select the one you want. I'm not 100% sure exactly what the launcher is called on your manufacturer, but scroll through them and try to find the right one. Hope that helps!
