Why is it making a popping sound and wont turn on?

My sons 3DS is fully charged but when he tries to turn it on, the light turns blue - stays on for 3-4 seconds then makes a popping sound, something flashes super quick on screen and it turns off. What is wrong and can it be fixed?

If you have the original model CTR-001, then Nintendo does not offer repairs (You can find the model number on the bottom of the device.). Nintendo offers repairs on other models. See here: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/...

If you wish to look at doing the repair yourself: I suggest looking at this post: No power - makes a popping sound - fails to turn on..

Also, I hear a popping sound and it shuts off..
