Just replaced my PS3 HDD but get an error?
Hello all,
OK so, I replaced my PS4 HDD from 500GB to 2TB all good, today I bought a second hand PS3 and wanted to replace the 160GB HDD that it came with, so since I am not using my old PS4 HDD I wanted to add that into the PS3, so I replaced the 160GB from the PS3 with the 500GB PS4 one and all good.
I then downloaded the PS3 firmware and added it in correct folder order, however when I turn on the PS3 with the firmware USB inserted I get the: "Cannot Start. The appropriate system storage was not found" :-/ I also held how the power button and waited for the correct number of beeps but still shows me that error...
I also went online and searched and some people said you could just take a PS4 HDD and add it to the PS3 no problems but what am I doing wrong?
I hope someone can help me out.
Emma

An HDD is just a HDD. Doesn't matter if it came from a laptop or a PS4 or a Xbox, still the same. Are you sure you formated the HDD with the correct filesystem? I'm not entirely sure, but I believe it uses exfat or fat32.

Yes very true George, well I don't have a 2.5 external casing for the HDD. I thought the Playstation 3 would format it.

put your old hdd back in and update to latest fw 4.82 as of may 2018.
after firmware has installed and your back on the xmb, power off the ps3 and remove old hdd.
Now replace it with the new hdd and update the firmware with the same one you used on the old hdd after all is installed you will be back on the xmb.
Remember you will need to get all your account login information games etc. back as its a fresh hdd
