i turn it on and it doesn't run the operative system

i changed the hardware on my ibook g3 and it seems to work, it turns on but it doesn't run the mac os , it just shows a little folder with a question mark and the mac os symbol, did the hardware get erased????

What means "changed the hardware"? What hardware?

You could have a lose or incorrectly connected HD if you removed that. You could have an unformatted, HD with no OS installed on it.
