iPad Air Two screen replacement question. What are these 4 pins for?

Hello, I repair Apple products almost on a daily basis at a small repair shop in my town. Although I have repaired only few iPad Air 2s (They are not too common in this area), I always see at the bottom left on the old screen an adhesive holding two, four gold "pins" together. You can remove the top partner of this part and place it on the new screen. I always do this even though I do not know what exactly it does and why it is there. A repair I did today the piece ripped while I was removing it. The screen seems to work fine without it but I have to ask, what does this do? Do I need to worry about it in future repairs? It is kind of isolated and I can't seem to find why it is necessary, but it probably is.

Any reply is helpful

You mean this?

This is a Hall Effect sensor for the SmartCover. It should be transferred over from the old, damaged screen to the replacement screen.
