hey, so i recently replaced the screen of a friends iphone 5s following the steps in the guide on this site.

the phone was in pretty bad shape having been dropped a few times, in addition to the screen being cracked the phone had just recently stopped responding to touch input and the back camera was broken. this is the first iphone i have tried to repair and had thought that replacing the screen would do the trick. having replaced the screen re attached the camera connector and put the phone back together the home button works fine but it still wont accept any touch input.

any thoughts on how i might be able to get this up and running again?

Did you have a case on when you tried it? Also did you what did you replace?

Check the touch screen connector on the board. Does it look worn out (plastic / connector pins)?

Did you make sure you heard or felt the click in when plugging in the screen connectors?

Did the phone have all 4 screws for the metal plate that goes over the screen cables to the logic board screen connectors?

Does the screen have dented corners and would not let a screen sit flush unless you forced it in?

If this happened then I'm sorry to say the screen is most likely no good after that and requires replacement + iPhone frame being bent back to make sure it does not obstruct with installing the screen.

the connectors seem to be firmly in place but there was only 3 screws in the metal plate covering the cables (top right is missing). a few of the connectors have the foam pads missing and the cover that sits over the home screen connector was gone too so all in all its a bit worn although the actual pins and connectors looked ok

it didn't have a case on, just replaced the screen with a replacement from amazon. the camera was just unhooked rather than broken so just needed re-attached

Have you tried doing the home button + power button hold for 15 seconds to hard shut off and turn on again to see if that helps with the touch screen issue?

You may have just a faulty screen which means you should return for warranty / get another screen.

The long vertical connector is for the touch screen digitizer and the short horizontal one is used for the LCD image display.

Have you checked to make sure the frame is not slightly bent? If it is bent it will put some stress on the screen and can make the touch malfunction. I had one that was not a total loss of touch but it would work about 50% of the time. Turned out the frame was bent.

Lay the phone on a flat surface and try slide a piece of paper under it. Just push it back and forth around the edges working you way around the phone. If it slides under at any point the frame is bent.

Yes he checked, if you read the comments, you would have seen that we established that it was bent.

Well a bent corner does not mean the whole frame is bent or slightly warped. You can have a case that does not show any signs of damage and it can still be slightly bent. And yes I do read the comments. But thanks for pointing it out.
