Has anyone looked into starting a class action suit against Microsoft? It seems that we are spending lots of money buying new controllers and headsets and still having the issues. We have three headsets with the issue. What does it take to start the class action law suit?

Hello all, we're having exactly the same problems here and it is driving us nuts. I bought a new controller and that worked for 3days and now it can't find the mic again. That's 3 controllers for us and multiple headsets. I can definitely confirm that it isn't a broken controller or headset. Yesterday, by complete fluke it worked once for for 5 minutes and nothing since. It isn't router problems either as I've checked this. Microsoft need to get a fix for this asap - never seen anything like it. The problem is, is that it doesn't seem to effect everyone

I’m also having the same problem. Twin boys, school holidays and the inability to scream at their friends whilst playing Fortnite is causing a meltdown in this household. I’ve tried everything that everyone’s suggested and nothing works. Does anyone have any other ideas, I’m slowly losing the will to live?

I removed the headphone jack, bent the pins out a little both inside the jack itself and the ones that make contact with the board and also placed a small bit of card under the jack to apply pressure. Back working so far.

My fix for this solution - after being bullied into buying increasing expensive headsets by my children - has been to return the controller to the store where I bought it - EB Games in Australia - and have it replaced under warranty because it is faulty. Cue happy Fortnit-ing kids … But we have now done this three time! So don’t mess around with a controller that is under warranty (the same warranty that extends to your Xbox) just get it replaced straight up. You can check the length of warranty by logging into your Microsoft - xBox account.

Our next console will definitely not be a Microsoft one.

The jack in the controller is non soldered, it alows play rather than snapping out. If you pop the controller apart (watch a tutorial on you tube) and gently bend the pins out to make more of a contact, add a tiny pad to put a bit more preasure on it, I will stop cutting out. I had to do this with both my controllers as they were always cutting out even after having them for 2 days , now I don’t have any issues. Be aware though that opening a controller will void the warranty.

Microsoft won't address it either. This happened after an update in 2017.

Multiple controllers, headsets, and a wireless USB headset all fail to connect. The Xbox does it randomly. It only works when it wants to.

Had same issue and fixed it like this

open up controller and take out the port for headphone jack .. bend the gold connectors back alil so it has a good connection to mother board than you will see the gold connectors that’s inside where the headphone jack touches bend those a lot so they all have full contact when you plug in jack I did that by using a thumb tack .. all my controllers work now did it to everyone

Purchased an adapter headphone converter for Xbox one controller on amazon for about 24$. Fixed the problem my son was having with his mic not working after a while. Seems there is a poor construction problem with Xbox controllers that after continuance of pulling the headphones in and out of the jack on the controller something gets loose and doesn’t allow the connection between the Xbox controller and headphones to conduct. This little piece of equipement allows that conduction to take place again through another source. Hope this helps.

My son went through 3 headsets due to no mic, partial sound coming through ear pieces or not at all. I took his controller apart and located the headset Jack socket. I gently pressed the metal connectors that the Jack plug connect to back into the socket as they'd pushed out a little bit. They'd only been getting a partial connection to the Jack. Ove time they had lost their springyness and stayed pushed out when the headphones had been removed. I put it back together and he hasn't had a problem since. That was 2 months ago

I posted it above, but decided to do it again because this problem was so annoying. I was really frustrated.

I tried out so many solutions that I found here and other sites that I started to get confused of what was really done, because sometimes a setting would make the headset work, but then the problem started again soon later.

What solved was the proposal of robertstone88 above. There is a problem in the audio P2 jack. The contacts are not well assembled or something. I took my controller to someone that fixes it and asked just to do what is said “gently bend the pins out to make more of a contact". It has been working since then. Two months so far and no problem at all.

Here’ here's the solution we’ we're all running around the same bush here so buying an adapter for 50 bucks is one option or we can ban together march on Microsoft and start pillaging and raping everyone who's ever been involved in making Xbox until we feel better because really it’ because really it's no different than what they did to us

Theres a little gold colored metal prong near the opening of the 3.5mm jack and you need to bend that back out with something pointy like a dental pick or something. I was having issues and thought it was my mic.

The best longest lasting fix is… get a wireless headset, my son went through half a dozen controllers and I repeatedly tore them apart and fixed them until I got tired of fixing them and went wireless

Which headset are you using? I have the XBOX ONE S, and my headsetseems its no fuctionning takes a few seconds, to boot then works, ensure it is properly plugged in, if not try other mics to ensure it is not the jack and simply not the mic. Replacing the audio jack, is quite drastic; in light of no evidence of it being the issue. Try others let us know.

Same with me. The headset works with anything else but when I plug it into the Xbox One s controller it doesn't work. I can here a little sound like static but that's it. I've read elsewhere sometimes the controller has problems where the jack is. Only bought the controller/console set on Nov so going to take the controller back tomorrow and get the store to look at it.

Have the same problem as everyone else. Headset worked for about 2 months then sporadically worked, bought a new xbox headset last night, that didn’t work. Plugged the new headset into each of the two extra controllers I have and it still doesn’t work. I don’t know where my problem is right now. I doubt all three of my controllers are bad and I doubt the brand new headset is bad. Honestly, I doubt at this point the first headset is bad! Help!

Try restarting your xbox then when it turns back on re-sync the controllers via the bluetooth button the plug the mic in, very frustrating problem but this worked for me. Hope that helps someone!

Same with me.. Went and got a new controller worked for about 4 days and happened again.. Tried the new controller on another xbox and it worked.. Definitely an xbox problem.. Something Microsoft should look into fixing ASAP..

Same issues as everyone....how is this still happening??? We tried syncing and bought new headsets and tried different Xbox One controllers....how has this not been fixed? Very frustrating as my son will play one day and it’s fine and now it’s not working again :(

Microsoft should have never bought Xbox in the first place.. all cheap material from China. EVERYBODY I know has same problem. Surprised there is no law suit for selling defective items.

I have a slightly different problem.

My Xbox One controller has the jack built into the controller.

Various other headphones, and earbuds work with the controller.

Which means the controller jack works.

My headphones used to work, 7/29/18 "when they last worked". I go to use them today I get a mute Icon as well as my headphones not working at all, all that happens is a popping noise from one side from the headphones, the side changes for some reason sometimes, So this would mean that my headphones are receiving power, but not being recognized by the Xbox as a audio device.

The same headphones work on my laptop, 3ds, and MP3 player.

I just get no system audio from the Xbox One to the Headphones.

Controller: Model 1697, Headphone Jack Working.

Headphones: Koss UR-20 Home Headphones, Speakers Working, Jack Working.

I have had the same problem tried everything, they had the idea of taking out the controller charger and putting it back in firmly. This seemed to work for myself, hopefully it works for anyone else.

Hi all, I have a solution.

I too had intermittent headphone sound and tried all the tips and tricks suggested here including updating the X Box One wireless controllers.

No matter what I did, there was no sound in the headphones, so I used the same technique as you do with all sound devices on computers, I triggered it!

How to do this:

When you enter a game with headphones attached to the controller and there’s no sound…

Press the Big X on your controller once lightly, to enter the menu.

Below “Settings”, you’ll see “Audio”, click this and you’ll see 3 slider controls.

Go down to the middle slider and slide it down a notch.

You should instantly hear sound or game music in your headphones.

This will have triggered the sound card to work correctly!

It may not stay working forever and so may need triggering periodically or every time you start up your X Box and want to use a headset.

My son’s Xbox One S controller stopped detecting the headset after 2 months. The headset was continually being plugged & unplugged from the jack socket. I contacted Microsoft & was advised to send it off for ‘repair’ as it was under warranty. Before sending it off I borrowed a headset adaptor which plugs in to the rear of the controller & the headset worked perfectly without any issues. I have sent the controller off to Microsoft. In the meantime I got a wired controller which was working perfectly well until 2 days ago!! Looks like another issue with the controller jack socket. Unfortunately this particular wired controller doesn’t allow the fitting of the adaptor. If your controller has this additional socket then try an adaptor.

Lots of guessing and variation of same problem here. Its all down to the connection to the mother board as described by a few others. The jack socket is basically placed on the mother board not welded and sits on little gold legs, couple of mm thick, each having a different function, one maybe the mic, another speaker etc. The problem comes from plugging in this will obviously put slight pressure on these pins and they only need to bend a fraction to loose contact, each time you plug in different pressure will be applied so another pin may move slightly causing a reconnection, eventually connection is lost. We have also spent as fortune on differing controllers and headsets. This is a simple problem that microsoft must be aware of but seem reluctant to change, the headset manufacturers must be a little annoyed as they are getting hundreds of working returns.

I have never had problems with PlayStation. Xbox is useless. Disgusting how they continue to get away with this. Same problems. I contacted customer services who have told me to return my controller for replacement, leaving me with no access for a month while I continue to pay online expenses. Whole unit was bought less than two months ago and never worked. I can’t see how replacing handset is going to change the mute icon on home screen when it’s there permanently even when the handset isn’t synced.

I am having the same issue. I have 4 controllers and 4 headsets, all of which work for a while, then sporadically and then not at all.

About a month ago, I spoke with someone at xbox support who said it was a software issue that the third party headsets were not updating and they had an update coming in July to fix this. They sent me another controller for free (thanks, but please just fix the problem). The new controller worked for about 3 weeks and then I am without a working headset again. I called back into xbox support and they didn’t know anything about the software fix they had promised me last month. After talking to a supervisor, they told me that xbox will no longer support 3rd party headsets. I let them know that this answer is INSANE, especially since you can still purchase 3rd party headsets (including the one I have) on the Microsoft store website. I asked for their response in writing or to speak to someone else, both of which were refused. I later spoke with someone else in tech support and they are proposing that it may be a problem with my actual xbox and I need to send it in for 3+ weeks to check it out.

Needless to say, I am not happy with xbox. I have a 7 month old xbox with 4 controllers and headsets and none of them are currently working.

Here are 3 things you can try:

1. Go to your audio setting and under “Headset chat mixer” turned it all the way down. Seems theres a bug that flips the levels for whatever reason hopes that helps!
