Late 2015 27" 5K iMac - CPU replacement test
I have a Late 2015 27” iMac.
I'm going to experiment with upgrading to Kaby lake 7700k CPU. I will share the results soon.
Good luck to me.

I gave it a try! I installed 7700k CPU in my iMac today. It did not recognize it.
I lost money and time, as I was curious if it would work. Sadly no soap.

I've just swapped my i5-6500 for a i7700 and I get nothing!
No power to the screen, I do get power to the logic board, USB ports and fan.
So I guess its not accepting the chip.
While these chips are very similar (review the specs sheets below) I don't think it will work as the systems EFI likely won't recognize the chips Device ID code.
If it does work you'll need to run some benchmarks to see if you gained any real performance.

Please let us know your results as others will surely be asking about this.
@mayer - HD K gave it a try it's a no go ;-{ The systems EFI won't recognize the chip (device ID code).
Otherwise the two chips are pin compatible (same socket). The TPI & power requirements are also the same so it should work from the specs.

@feel - This is an older Late 2015 5K system! The i7 7700k will only work in the newer 2017 model.
