1 Charge flex cable contact melting
Hello all!
I just experienced something strange and i am hoping some of you out there have an answer.
I replaced the charging port dock connector flex cable on an iPhone 6 for a customer.
After i finnished i tested if the phone was charging and that the batteri percentage actually went up. And testing was successfull. iPhone 6 Lightning Connector and Headphone Jack
I gave the phone back to the customer and 1 day after hes calling me and saying the phone is not charging. I ask him if he have tried several chargers and cables and he said yes but non of them was working.
I went ahead and opened the phone today to check what was wrong. I suspected the battery might have some issues. I opened up the phone and pryed open the battery cable and the cable from the dock connector. At first sight everything looked ok but when it took a closer look at the connector on the motherboard it looked like one of the sides of it was melted. Pictures attached.
How is this possible ?

Its always a good idea to disconnect the battery before disconnecting any other flex cables. I cant think what would cause this other than a faulty chargeport. Was the client using genuine apple chargers?

Hi @smashederic and thanks for your respons.
Before i replaced the charge port the battery was the first thing that i disconnected. My Client was only using the original charger that came with the phone. I am not sure a faulty charge port could have caused this melting?

its hard to imagine a genuine part would do this i know. Only other think i can think of is that the power management chip on the board has stopped working. Melting this plastic take a lot of heat and therefore power.. please let me know i im wrong as i havent seen this issue before

I've always unplugged and plugged in charging ports with battery plugged in, never had issues with that.
