Can I upgrade the RAM on this 13-inch early 2011

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

It runs a little slow, would upgrading the memory to 32 GB help it run faster? Or should I upgrade the Hard Drive to an SSD?

Or is there any other way of making it run a little bit faster?

Thanks

It looks like your system is maxed out at 16 GB of RAM.

SSD storage is a great idea! But, can be quite pricey depending on the size you are looking for. I might suggest, de-cluttering your drive and making a TimeMachiene backup of it.

If you don't have any important software/still have the installation/purchase licenses for it, I might even suggest doing a fresh install and selectively copying items from your TimeMachiene back onto your system.

At the moment, I have a 13" MacBook Mid 2010 that has 3 GB of RAM in it. I don't use it for anything too heavy, but it has a fresh install of Sierra on it and it is flying fast. So that is my experience with fresh installs.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!

Thanks!I don't know the decluttering process of the drive: how do I go with?

What you want to do is defrag the drive using defragmentation software like this: Drive Genius. Or, after backing up your system & setting up an OS installer thumb drive. Reformat the drive and re-install the OS & your apps afresh, then restore as needed from your backup.

As for de cluttering, it would be removing /transferring over files you don't use anymore. Things like photos, music, videos, old downloads - just to make some extra space.
