my phone has been left for over a month but it still won't turn on, the home button is broken as well. It just displays the apple screen for about 20 or so seconds and goes off, i have tried everything...

Had anything happened to your phone prior to you leaving it aside for a month, like drops, previous repairs or contact with water?
As it is, I suspect your battery is nearly depleted and is not sufficiently strong enough to allow the phone to boot properly. You can find the guide for replacing the battery here.
