Dark screen when dim is more than 3 dots

Hello everyone. I have a question what could be in fault when I increase me brightness to more than 3 dots (OS X ui). My screen goes black but if I take a flashlight I can see my desktop and opened application.

So I open the screen and try to disconnect and reconnect the cable.

I saw that the vsync cable was damage so I decided to unplug it and try again.

Now I can increase my brightness to full whiteout my screen goes black.

So my question is : this is a temporary solution ?

What could be in cause ? Inverter ? Or just vsync cable could cause this issue ?

Thanks

Edit : I also saw some flex repair by glue or tape. Can someone explain how to did this ?

Thanks

Hi

So I just change all the component. And the issue persist. More later I can use the mac more longer but the screen loose the backlight again.

When it arrives the top back screen is very hot it could be an issue. Perhaps I need to try smcfancontrol to avoid that ..

Pierre Gagliardi sounds like an inverter issue since it requires to increase the power to the backlight as you "crank" it up. You unplugged the vsync cable and plugged it back in or left it off? Let us know your exact model so we can research this a bit more in detail and see if we can come up with a fix for you.

Pierre Gagliardi you can always try and fix the cable. If you know, or can see where it is damaged, strip those ends and reattach them either by soldering or actually using some decent electrical tape. Kind of a PITA so a replacement would definitely be easier.

That cable helps the larger displays stay in sync. It assist with keeping the signal from the video card to the panel in sync (simplified). Without the vsync cable you may start to hear a high-pitched whine from the display or you may get flickering (vibration) in the image on your display. For the cost of it, I would suggest to repair (difficult) or replacing it.

Hi thanks for your answer. I just leave the vsync cable unplugged. My Imac is A1312 EMC2309. Without the cable plugged i can use it but I think the issue will come back in few months. When i increase brightness i heard a little noisy sound. But nothing crazy. Can i leave it unplugged ? I search in france for this part but don't found.

More often than not a damaged ribbon cable can't be patched up. Once they tear the tiny wires get cut. There is just no way to patch the traces.

I would start off replacing the vSync cable TheBookYard - vSync Cable- Apple P/N 922-9161. Then lets revisit this.

Yes the tiny wires is really cut. and is this usefull to change this as it works now without ?

I wouldn't use it in this state. Apple doesn't put in extra parts for the sake of it ;-}

Thanks you i just order a V-sync cable and a new inverter. Wait and see. :)
