Crackling noise in Audio Speakers

I have legacy Intel motherboard DG965WH based assembled PC.

It worked fine with Windows xp, and Widows 7 and associated audio drivers.

After update to Windows 10 latest build, audio speaker output has either no sound or only hissing noise or crackling noise or intermittent sound with crackles in the background. I tried installing OEM's Audio driver (IDT) downloaded from Intel's web site. No improvement. Speaker-set works fine with other system.

It is pertinent to mention that Audio output on a USB head-set with Windows 10 is fine.

My question : Whether it is a driver problem with Windows 10, latest build being incompatible, or a hardware failure of on-board audio components for Jack output.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @raja1950 ,

Have you tried uninstalling the audio drivers, restarting the pc and allowing Windows to "find' and install the audio drivers?

Have you tried installing the Intel Win 7 audio drivers (either 32 bit or 64 bit depending on your Win 10 installation) in Compatibility mode for Win 7?

Here is an example of how to do it

Update (11/08/2017)

Hi @raja1950 ,

Sorry to hear of your problem with Compatibility mode.

Here is a link that may be of some interest to you. It warns of trying Compatibility mode (which you now already know about) but it does offer a solution for audio in Win 10. It states that it worked in Win 10 64-bit but perhaps it may also work in 32-bit. Also take note regarding creating a restore point and also performing a backup before you start, just in case ;-)

Thank you @jayeff for your valuable suggestions.

I have a 32 bit system.

Yes, I have tried but no joy. As a matter of fact when I attempted to install OEM Audio driver using compatibility mode, the driver did not install fully and within two minutes of installation I got Blue Screen of death and PC shut down automatically.

I was constrained to remove the driver installation.

Thanks once again.

Hi @jayeff

Thank you again for your message. I read the linked page.

In the device manager I get: Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus), against Location 0 suggested in the Blogspot under paragraph 3. As such I am stuck up and could not proceed as am unable to change this number.

Best

Hi @raja1950 ,

How many entries have you got in the Sound area of Device Manager?

The link suggests that there may be two.

What device have you got against Location 0, you didn't say?

Have you tried updating the drivers for whatever is listed against Location 0? You don't have much to lose.
