How do I change the toner OPC drum?

Monochrome laser printer introduced in 2012. The printer is rated for 35 PPM and the first page comes out in 8 seconds. Depending on which model you own (a/n/dw/dn/dne), you will have different options and available features. Uses HP 80A/80X toner cartridges.

How do I change the toner OPC drum?

The cartridge in my printer is almost 2 years old, but was manufactured in 2012 since I bought this printer as a floor model. If it was still usable this wouldn't be a problem but the OPC drum on the cartridge is damaged and produces visible defects. The problem is there is still a good amount of unused toner.

As of when I write this post, the printer's chip estimates that I only have 100 pages left. This is almost always inaccurate since HP is more conservative then other manufacturers. With HP, you will often find ~100-150+ pages of toner left once the printer deems the cartridge empty. In reality I probably have at least 200-250 pages worth of toner left in this cartridge. Since I set my printer up to continue printing on "empty" toner when I bought it, I can run the cartridge as long as I want.

Since I still have a good amount of toner left, how would I go about purchasing a OPC drum and replacing it? Should I find an empty 80A/L and get the drum off of that or am I better off buying a new toner and then using this one until the quality is no longer acceptable or more defects develop?

Hello Nick! You can order new OPC for your cartridge and then replace older one. It's a cheap but can be quite messy. For that purpose - i recommend you to check videos on youtube or elsewhere.

OPC, toner viper blade and etc. can be easly found on Ebay, Aliexpress. Not sure about Amazon, need to check.

That's certainly good to know if I run into this problem in the future. I'm at the point with this toner I have fading you can't shake out (and shaking it also reveals waste toner), so I think this toner may not last much longer.

Yeap. You have whole tutorial how to refill that cartridge. Just follow steps from videos. But you need some space for it and some tools as well. Just keep in mind that cartridge itself devides into 2 parts (one for refilling and one - for collecting waste toner products), and when you do separate - some powder can falls out. As for toner - it's a big question - what to choose. I'm not advertising anything - but SCC used to made up good universal toner, also you can choose Uninet brand. Other then these - there are lots of generic toner brands.
