Scorched display connector, no backlight

http://img684.imageshack.us/i/photobju.j...

No backlight on the display so naturally I opened up to check connections first. found that the display connector appeared scorched.

Can anyone verify that this is what is causing there to be no backlight on the display?

Even if your video cable connection is wrong you should get screen lightning if you're able to power the machine and boot the OS. Could you connect an external monitor and check if you have video on the external ?

works flawless with an external display. I can see that the issue is definitely something with the backlight. If I light through the apple on the reverse of the clamshell I can see the display is functioning properly otherwise. Wondering if it is worth trying to get my hands on another display or if I should just write the board off as damaged.

I cannot determine the extent of the scorching from the photo submitted. Is the display data cable burned? Could you upload a picture of it. Step 9 of this guide shows what it should look like.MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Display Replacement

How well seated was the cable? Even if we can determine if the problem is the cable or the logic board, I don't know what would cause this.

Sorry for the bad quality when I get home I will take a photo with my camera. All that was available at the time was my iPhone.

here is the close up photo, not sure if that is corrosion around that area... Did not notice that until I got some better lights and magnified on the camera. Could be what caused it. http://img848.imageshack.us/i/connector.... Definitely need to get some overhead lights in my work area...

Hi there,

I am experiencing the same troubles here - it seems the connector on the board is corroded or burnt, and no backlight as well (with all other functions working fine. The picture you uploaded is pretty much the same as my macbook.

Have you got the connector fixed? I'm wondering about whether or not i'll need to replace the entire logic board.

Cheers,

Wilson

Hi,

I'm looking at my daughter's MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (Unibody) A1278. She had a "Pepsi Syndrome" spill and now the LED back light is dead on the display. I opened the case to find that the display data cable and connector have a burned contact, which is likely the cause. Display output is functioning fine with an external monitor. I'll post pics when i get a chance.

My question is: has anyone repaired the connector on the logic board or is a replacement logic board and a new display data cable the only option?

I thought that it might be possible to jumper around the connector to make a repair. I would need a microscope, a fine tip on the soldering iron and very fine wire to do this. Any advice?

Thanks!

Jeff
