Is it the LCD screen or the logic board?

I recently replaced the LCD screen on my iPhone 3g. It worked fine for a couple of days. I realized I left a piece of protective film over the LCD (I know, pretty stupid...not sure how I missed that), so I took it apart, pealed the film off, and put the whole thing back together.

This time I had difficulty getting ribbon cable #1 attached. When I finally did, the screen was all white. I opened it and made sure #1 was attached right, and in messing with it, I got the screen to work right...for a moment or two. Then white again. Then, after a couple of minutes of messing with it, black, and it stayed that way.

The phone works, meaning it rings when i call it, I can reset it, and it vibrates when I put it on silent.

So, do I need to replace the LCD again, or have I damaged the logic board in some way?

Are you sure you have the right screen?? Had this happen to me... 3gs won't fit the 3g connection! Check your order form.

Yeah, I have the right screen. Made sure of it when I ordered, and it worked for a couple of days.

have you tried hard reset? hold power and home for 10 secs, apple will appear... release buttons and allow to reboot.

I would open the phone and check the LCD screen connection to the logic board and also check to see if there is any damage to the ribbon cable for the LCD screen. Also check the connections to ribbon cables 1, 2, and 3 and make sure there connected to the logic board as well. Also check for damage on all 3 cables. iPhone 3G Display Replacement

Cables seem fine, no visible damage. Only having problems connecting cable 1. If the other two weren't connected right, wouldn't the LCD still light up? I know cable 1 is the LCD, but I don't know if none of them would work if only one is disconnected (as in, if 3 were disconnected, but 1 and 2 were connected, would all three components be unable to work?)

What was the problem with the old screen? any chance of using it to test?

I'm not sure but wonder if you shorted something out on the screen by moving the connector while under power. I don't have enough experience with this to say how possible with this, but I expect others will chime in and let us know.

I've learned it's important to feel the snap on those connectors and doublecheck them. It may seem like it's in, but make sure you're lined up, and press on opposite sides of the connector until it snaps in.

Had to replace the first LCD because I completely shattered it and the digitizer glass. Cables 2 and 3 are connected OK, but 1 is the booger that I have trouble making stay. Even so, I have gotten it in there right (felt like it did when I had it working the first time), and still nothing. I'm wondering if I shorted out the display part of the logic board (not sure if you can short out only one of its capabilities, just a guess). Don't want to buy the wrong part and be out more $$. I could test things on my wife's 3G...but after the debacle this has turned into for me, I'm very wary of cracking hers open and screwing it up too.

BTW, it was real easy to turn the phone on after I put it together. Once I realized it wasn't working right, I tried to turn it off...but really have difficulties turning it back off without a screen.

I wrote this same post already for another answer. you can check the link: iPhone 3G screen is white

I changed the glascover of my iPhone because it was broken. After putting the new one on, all I had was a white screen display.... :s Till I found out that the connectors from the lcd display were damaged, so I had to replace the lcd, too. After that, my phone was working like in the good old times again.

I read a post where you can disconnect #4 to stop the power from going to the #3 etc. see if that works.

I think I have to replace my lcd screen also for the same reason, disconnecting with the power on. My #2 has a black spot on it and possibly was the reason my phone went black. I can see my phone show up on my computer with the front off but if I try to connect the 1, 2 and 3 front screen it does not show on the computer. Must have one of these burnt out or shorted.
