"No Service" (Cellular Service) After Dropped In Water

Hello,

Hoping for a fix here. I dropped my phone for about 10 seconds in some water.

It has been repaired (as far as I have been told) as follows:

1) Alcohol "bath"

2) New Screen

3) New Battery

4) New Antenna

Now, the phone appears to be perfectly fine. It connects to WiFi, it charges, camera works, speaker works, etc... But I simply cannot get a cel signal. It says "No Service".

I have rebooted. I have toggled Airplane Mode. I have swapped SIM cards with my husband's phone. Nothing has worked.

Are there any other suggestions as to what I might try to fix this?

If you need more information, I would appreciate some direction on where to look/how to diagnose so that I can relate the answers to your questions to you.

Thank you so much in advance. I am beside myself because the phone seems perfectly fine, and I would hate to spend the money on an upgrade if I really don't need one and it's an easy fix. Thank you again.

Have you tried this step from the iphone 6s troubleshooting guide?

"

Weak or lost wireless connections

You have trouble connecting to a wireless network.

Dirty antenna grounds

If your iPhone has been disassembled before, it's possible that finger oils were left on the grounding locations for the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth antennas. These oils will cause grounding issues for the antennas, which could lead to a weak signal or no connectivity at all. Be sure to clean all grounding points with an electronics cleaning solution (a little isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth can also work) before reassembling your iPhone to prevent grounding issues."

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but this addresses WiFi?

I can access WiFi with no issue. I am not able to access cellular (AT&T) service.

Does this apply to cellular access?

I'm not sure. @minho any ideas?

When you disassemble the iphone, check the screws near the top and those around the upper left antenna assembly iPhone 6s Cellular Antenna Replacement

If those are dirty, they can and will cause poor contact to the external antenna band. Even oil from your fingers can cause a noticeable issue. I personally clean them with Acetone but a very light abrasive might be needed. Those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers do a great job also, as they are a very mild abrasive - but i use them dry, not wet.

Also, make sure you are not missing any screws in that area or any of the screws that connect items to the housing.

I hope that helps some! Good luck!

@unccgirl in the dial screen type in *#06# to see if it shows the imei, if not it could be a baseband or baseband power problem

@ashleybennett could either be a software or hardware issue, iphone in most cases are related to hardware issues, android can be either

Did you contact the service? It seems unlikely to run out of service immediately after an incident, but not impossible.

No. The screen fried almost immediately, even though I was shaking the water out of the phone. When it was opened, it seemed bone dry, but the above-mentioned repairs were made. It was only after I could turn phone back on and see home screen, that I noticed Cel Service was spotty, at best. It would start a call, and then say “call failed” almost immediately.

Now it refuses to even give me any bars (it did, before, but still wasn’t connecting), which is why the antenna was replaced.

But now I get “No Service” - and it hasn’t budged no matter what I’ve tried (reboot, etc...). Wondering what I may have missed trying or if there could be another problem I’m not aware could exist.

If you drop your phone in water again you should immediately put it in a bag of rice.

NO! Rice does not help! it will not stop corrosion!

According to everyone I know and from my own experiences, it does. Have you experienced it or are you just stating the facts of other people? Telling people they need replacements doesn't tell people how to fix something, unless there is absolutely no other way and in need of spare parts. I bet most of the people on this site come here because they want to fix it themselves without spending money on repairs... And how come you keep on stalking everything I do? I admit I am new, but even if you joined this site a while ago it doesn't necessarily mean you are the administrator of the website...

There will more than likely be some kind of board level issue that would need to be found with test equipment like a multi meter and is more than likely a result of progressive corrosion caused by its recent swimming lesson, Seeing as its got worse over a period of time. When it was treated to the alcohol bath did all the shields on the boards get removed? Were the chips checked under?
